Zinsser's AllCoat Solvent Base and Perma-White paints have been used extensively on the walls and ceilings of a stately home extension in Derbyshire. Originally built in the 12th century, Thornbridge Hall was substantially rebuilt in the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Run as a teacher training college, an educational centre and conference centre by Sheffield City Council from 1945, it has been owned privately since 2002.
The extension, designed by architects Chris Gothard Associates, is the first significant building construction to be undertaken for over 100 years. It houses a splendid swimming pool, below-ground gymnasium and beauty rooms. Because of the function of the extension, building contractors Baytree Interiors wanted an internal paint that would be completely moisture permeable resistant and that would not flake or peel. The solution was the specification of the Zinsser products.
"We used AllCoat Solvent Base as a primer, with Perma-White in both white and tinted as a decorative yet functional top coat," comments Mick Edge of Baytree. "This was a large contract and the interior environment dictated the use of specialist paint. With a wealth of experience in decorating interiors, we chose the Zinsser paints for their proven high performance and durability."
AllCoat Solvent Base is an all-purpose interior primer / sealer that effectively blocks stains, including water stains. The flexibility of the primer is reflected in its adhesion to all surfaces, drying quickly to allow a recoat in just two hours.
Perma-White Mould and Mildew-Proof Paint is a water-based paint specifically designed to withstand the harsh conditions of moisture-prone areas. Its unique formulation prevents mildew growth on the paint film even under the harshest conditions. Self-priming, tintable to any colour, low odour and easy to apply, it is guaranteed for five years.
Now fully completed, the swimming pool extension adds to the facilities of Thornbridge Hall which, as well as being a private home, is also an exclusive venue for various events.
